About the Institute

The Institute of Biology at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS) was established in 2019 as a result of the introduction of Act 2.0 and the resulting changes in the organizational structure of the university. At he beginning the Institute of Biology consisted of seven departments.

Nowadays (since 01.11.2025) Institute of Biology consists of five departments. The main scope of their research concerns the issues of the biology of animal cells and tissues: Department of Physics and Biophysics, Department of Nanobiotechnology; various aspects of plant-pathogen and microorganism interaction biology: Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology, Department of Botany and Plant Physiology, Department of Plant Genetics, Breeding and Biotechnology.

The Institute employs 120 people, including 92 research, teaching and research positions. Among them there are 12 titular professors, 18 university professors, 5 habilitated doctors, 52 doctors and 6 masters, representing various scientific disciplines, primarily biological sciences and agriculture and horticulture, but also forestry sciences and economics and finances.
