ELLS Summer School 2023

We have started the Summer School “From discovery to implementation – utilizing genomics for plant breeding” as part of the Euroleague for Life Sciences.

We host students from other universities associated with ELLS in our Department, including: from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, the University of Hohenheim, but also from other centers.
During the ongoing summer school, students learn modern gene analysis methods (library preparation, RNA-seq and bioinformatics data analysis) and how they can be used in plant breeding. Lectures will be delivered by experts in the field of genetics and plant breeding from our Department and recognized foreign centers.

The students were welcomed by Vice-Rector Marta Mendel, and the inaugural lecture was delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of SGGW, Prof. Marcin Filipecki. Another lecture by Dr. Piotr Gawroński introduced the audience to the world of RNA sequencing and was an excellent introduction to laboratory classes.

Over the next few days, students will participate in lectures and laboratory classes to acquire knowledge and practical skills.
