The right to confer the degree of habilitated doctor in the discipline of biological sciences
We are honored to inform you that the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles has decided to grant the Warsaw University of Life Sciences the right to confer the degree of habilitated doctor of exact and natural sciences in the discipline of biological sciences.
The decision of the Central Commission is the crowning achievement of the activities of the Institute of Biology at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and its rapid development. The institute was established in 2019. as a result of the introduction of Act 2.0 and the consequent changes in the organizational structure of the university.
The Institute of Biology consists of 7 research units, and the scope of their research concerns the issues of the biology of animal cells and tissues: Department of Physics and Biophysics, Independent Department of Nanobiotechnology and Experimental Ecology and the Independent Laboratory of Cancer Biology and various aspects of plant and microorganism biology: Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology, Department of Botany, Department of Plant Physiology, Department of Plant Breeding Genetics and Biotechnology.
The Institute employs 136 people, including 107 research, teaching and research positions. Among them there are 11 titular professors, 6 university professors, 11 habilitated doctors, 74 doctors and 12 masters, representing various scientific disciplines, primarily biological sciences and agriculture and horticulture, but also health sciences, forestry sciences, and even economics and finance.
In the units currently part of the Institute of Biology, 69 research projects were carried out in 2017-2019 (for a total amount of over PLN 75 million). In 2019 49 scientific projects financed by external entities were implemented: the National Science Center (38), the National Center for Research and Development (6), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (2), the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (2), the European Council for Scientific Research ( European Research Council – ERC ) (1).
In 2017-2019, employees of the Institute of Biology published 305 scientific papers in major international journals with an impact factor (IF). In 2019, 101 papers were published in journals with a total IF of 349.672.
The Institute of Biology has a very rich equipment base, allowing it to carry out work at all levels of the organization of plant and animal organisms.
